Francisco Park is a beautiful 4.5-acre park located in Russian Hill that opened in April 2022. Bordered by Francisco, Larkin, Bay, and Hyde streets, views from the park’s terraces include the Golden Gate Bridge, Ghirardelli Square, Alcatraz, and the Palace of Fine Arts.

Pepi’s Dog Park is a fenced-in dog run located on Bay Street. The park features native plants and trees that support local wildlife and a sustainable rainwater catchment system to save nearly 900,000 gallons of water per year. As you go up the hill, the park also features a children’s playground and nature exploration area, ADA-accessible pathways, a community garden, public restrooms, and plenty of open space for visitors, including an expansive central lawn, and picnic tables and benches with views.

Francisco Park is the largest public park to open in the city’s urban core since 1983. It is on the site of the former Francisco Reservoir, which has remained unused and fenced off since 1940. Francisco Park is unique from most parks in SF in that the park was primarily made possible through a close partnership between San Francisco Recreation and Parks and The Francisco Park Conservancy, a volunteer-led nonprofit that raised community funds to build and maintain the park. San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department purchased the land for $9.9 million from the Public Utilities Commission in 2014, and The Francisco Park Conservancy raised $27.5 million to build the park. With the completion of the project, Francisco Park is now under Rec and Park jurisdiction. However, The Francisco Park Conservancy is still actively involved in the park today, funding ongoing park maintenance and improvements through private donations.
