Panhandle Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project
Completed and Opened to the Public August 1, 2017!
Background
The Panhandle Pathways are located with Panhandle Park, just East of Golden Gate Park. The Pathways are used by a wide range of people for walking, jogging, biking, and crossing to get to the center of the Park. With all of these unique users it is important to increase the safety of this area as much as possible. Supervisor Breed listened to the community regarding the need for funding and was able to secure funds via the Board of Supervisors add-back process, to make these safety improvements a reality.
Scope of Work
Improvements to paving on the pedestrian path, installation of clear signage, re-striping of paint on pathways, repair and replacement of lighting with brighter energy efficient bulbs.
Funding
This project was made possible by an add-back from Supervisor Breed’s Office in the amount of $500,000 total over two fiscal years.
