Golden Gate Park - Tennis Center Renovation

Completed and Open to the Public February 26, 2021!

Background

Since 1894 players of every age and ability have learned, played, and competed in an iconic location in Golden Gate Park. Billie Jean King, Rosie Casals, and Peanut Louie Harper played here. And today, kids from tots to teens come to work on what matters - a love of tennis, perseverance, and becoming a good sport. That’s the vision that fueled a re-designed, re-imagined Golden Gate Park Tennis Center.

The Tennis Coalition promoted San Francisco’s advantage for year-round public tennis by spearheading the renovation of the historic Golden Gate Park Tennis Center and strengthening San Francisco’s tennis community.

Funding

The construction contract award for this project was approved by Recreation and Parks Commission on September 4, 2019 ( PDF ); Recreation and Parks Commission approved a contract amendment on November 4, 2020 ( PDF ). This construction contract award obtained and complies with all city, state, and federal regulatory approvals, including any that are specific to this project’s funding sources.
