Golden Gate Park - Botanical Garden Bookstore Barrier Removal Project
Completed and Opened to the public October 2024!
Scope of Work
This project designed and constructed a ramp and handrails to ensure that the Botanical Garden Bookstore complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Background
In late 2021, Recreation and Park Department staff received a citizen complaint about access into the bookstore because it had one step up into the facility and no handrail or ramp. RPD’s ADA Coordinator for Physical Access and staff from the Mayor’s Office on Disability performed a site visit and confirmed the site conditions. Staff adopted a programmatic solution to accommodate patrons until the ramp and handrails could be completed.
Funding
Funding for the current scope of work will be allocated from RPD’s annual set-aside for ADA improvement projects.
