George Christopher Playground Improvement Project

Completed and Open to the Public April 29, 2021!

Site Description

The entrance to George Christopher Playground is located near Duncan Street on Diamond Heights Boulevard. The approximately 310,000 square feet park is tucked between the Diamond Heights Shopping Center and Glen Canyon and has:

  • Baseball field
  • Tennis court
  • Clubhouse
  • Pathways
  • Playgrounds
  • Restrooms
  • Related amenities

Project Scope

The project includes improvements to park access, new children’s play areas, exterior clubhouse restroom renovation, and related amenities.

Funding

The project was funded by the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond; General Fund Add-Backs FY 2019 & 2020 (secured by Supervisor Mandelman and former Supervisor Sheehy); and additional Rec Park fund sources, all totaling approximately $5.3 million.

The construction contract award for this project was approved by Recreation and Parks Commission on July 18, 2019 ( PDF ). This construction contract award obtained and complies with all city, state, and federal regulatory approvals, including any that are specific to this project’s funding sources.
