Franklin Square Improvement Project
Completed and Opened to the Public in Early 2017!
Background
Thanks to the Friends of Franklin Square who lobbied successfully to install new adult exercise equipment including two-level parallel horizontal bars, parallel bars, horizontal ladder and light fixtures on fence poles to illuminate the western area of the park.
Scope of Work The project received $120,000 Eastern Neighborhood Benefit Funds for the park lighting improvement, including a two-level parallel horizontal bar, parallel bars, and horizontal ladder. The community requested several lights along t he western edge of the park . With $25,000 secured by the Supervisor’s Office, several lamp fixtures were attached to the athletic field fence poles illuminating the west path and patch of green. The field was replaced in early 2017 and is now open to the public.
Funding The project received $120,000 Eastern Neighborhood Benefit Funds and a $16,000 General Fund for the exercise equipment costs. Lighting was funded by an add-back allocated from the General Fund, secured by former Supervisor Malia Cohen’s Office at $25,000.
The construction contract award for this project was approved by Recreation and Parks Commission on May 4, 2016 ( PDF ). This construction contract award obtained and complies with all city, state, and federal regulatory approvals, including any that are specific to this project’s funding sources.
