Alamo Square Improvement Project
Opened to the public in Spring 2017.
Background
Recreation and Parks Department ( RPD ) combined the 2008 Bond project Restroom Renovation with the 2012 Bond project on water conservation to make the process more efficient and less costly.
The objective of the Water Conservation project is to maximize water savings through conservation and innovation by replacing antiquated irrigation systems that are leaking and poorly laid out; improving irrigation design and efficiency, including the installation of “smart” controllers; and planting lawn alternatives, including “no mow” grasses that are native to the western United States.
Scope of Work
For the Water Conservation portion of the project, RPD replaced irrigation system and quick coupler line with water-efficient components and improved layout; installed booster pump to address poor water pressure; and as appropriate, replaced areas of high water-use lawn with low water-use trees, understory plantings, and grasses (also known as “no mow” grass) .
A new Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ) accessible restroom was constructed.
Funding
The construction contract award for this project was approved by Recreation and Parks Commission on February 3, 2016 ( PDF ). This construction contract award obtained and complies with all city, state, and federal regulatory approvals, including any that are specific to this project’s funding sources.
