Alice Chalmers Playground
Completed October 2020. This playground renovation was part of Let’sPlaySF! Initiative and included new play equipment, as well as accessibility, restroom, and building code improvements.
Alamo Square Improvement Project
Completed Spring 2017. This project combined the 2008 Bond-funded restroom renovation with the 2012 Bond project on water conservation to make the process more efficient and less costly.
Alta Plaza Park Irrigation Improvements
Completed September 2018. This project included the replacement of the irrigation system on the Northern half of the Park.
Balboa Pool
Completed February 2019. This project included the renovation of the pool and pool building, addition of an 800 square foot multi-purpose space, and improvements to related amenities
Bayview Hill Trails Improvement Project
Bayview Hill is one of the most important and diverse natural areas, home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the city.
Bayview Playground Improvements (COF)
Completed January 2022. This project replaced and expanded the playground footprint, added new play equipment, and built an accessible walking path with adult exercise equipment.
Beach Chalet Fields
Completed December 2015. By renovating the Beach Chalet Soccer Fields with synthetic turf and lights, the amount of playtime available on these fields will triple from 4,738 hours per year to 14,320 hours per year.
Bernal Heights Trails Improvement Project
Completed September 2020. Bernal Heights provides visitors with stunning 360-degree views of the city and surrounding Bay Area.
Betty Ong Chinese Recreation Center
For several decades, San Franciscans have enjoyed recreating at the Chinese Recreation Center, a heavily used facility in the heart of Chinatown.

500 Pine Street - St. Mary’s Square Extension

Fillmore Turk Mini Park
Completed December 2023. Revitalizing the park with new landscaping, drainage, and seating.
Fulton Playground
$4 million from Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond to renovate Fulton to maintain the park’s historic character and recreational value.
Francisco Street Reservoir Improvement Project
Completed April 2022. This project transformed an abandoned reservoir site into a new public park.
Franklin Square Improvement Project
Completed early 2017. This project installed new adult exercise equipment and new lighting fixtures.
Garfield Pool Improvement Project
Completed July 2021. This project included the full renovation of Garfield Pool and Clubhouse.
Geneva Car Barn & Powerhouse Phase I Improvements
Completed May 2020. Revitalization of historic 1901 building that once served as a depot for the San Mateo Railroad, and then later for all San Francisco’s rail lines.
Geneva Community Garden
Completed February 2018. This project created a new garden with accessible common areas; new landscaping; new perimeter walls, fencing, and gates; and raised garden boxes for 50+ community garden plots.
George Christopher Playground Improvement Project
Completed April 2021. Renovation of 310,000 square feet park with clubhouse, baseball field, pathways, tennis courts, playgrounds, and related amenities.
Gilman Playground
Completed Summer 2016. This project was $1.8 million park renovation from the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond.
Glen Canyon Park Recreation Center
Completed June 2017. Funded by the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond, the project included renovation of the existing recreation center to provide an additional 4,500 square feet of multi-purpose space, gymnasium seating, and related amenities.
Glen Canyon Park
Funded by the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond, the project created a larger welcoming entry with a vehicular drop-off on Elk Street, a pedestrian path and landscaping, a new expanded children’s playground, and new tennis courts.

Golden Gate Heights Park
Completed July 2021. This project included the renovation of the children’s playground, paired with improvements to the upper lawn and entrance area.

Guy Place Mini-Park Construction Project
Completed July 2020. This vacant property was purchased by the City in March 2007 with funding from the Rincon Hill Community Improvements Fund.
Harding Park ADA Improvements
Completed December 2024. This is an ADA barrier removal project that will implement corrective measures to pathways and parking areas.
Hayes Valley Playground Improvement Project
Completed June 2011. Community members participated in a 6-month design process with the end result: a park loved by local residents.
Helen Diller Playgrounds at Civic Center
Completed February 2018. This project made improvements to the two playgrounds at Civic Center in partnership with Trust for Public Land.
Hilltop Park
Completed December 2016. This project involved a complete renovation of Hilltop Park, as part of The Trust for Public Land Parks for People initiative, in partnership with Parks 94124, and with enthusiastic help from the community.
In Chan Kaajal Park
Completed June 2017. New neighborhood park acquisition that was at the time the first new neighborhood park to be aquired and built by RPD in over a decade.
Japantown Peace Plaza Expansion Joint Replacement
The Peace Plaza underwent minor construction to replace its expansion joint.
Joe DiMaggio Playground
Completed November 2015. The park’s renovation realized a decade-old vision of the North Beach community, led by the Friends of Joe DiMaggio Playground.
Jose Coronado Playground
The Jose Coronado Playground Improvement Project focuses on improving the children’s play area.
Juri Commons Renovation
Completed September 2021. Spurred by the Community Opportunity Fund grant procured by the Friends of Juri Commons, and the park’s designation as one of 13 Let’sPlaySF! sites, the renovated park now offers a lush, safe, and accessible place for all.
Lafayette Park
San Francisco residents devoted over $10 million of the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond to improving Lafayette Park, one of Pacific Height’s crown jewels.
Lafayette Park Lighting Improvements
Completed April 2023. Additional lighting for major East-West and North-South walking paths to improve safety.
Lake Merced Boat Dock Replacement Project
Completed September 2021. The project included replacing the dock and gangway to improve accessibility and safety, as well as landscaping, lighting, parking, and pavement improvements.
Lake Merced Trail Improvements
Completed December 2024. Renovating and improving parks to respond to our neighborhoods’ and park users’ needs.
Larsen Playground
Completed November 2015. The project featured a preschool play structure, disk swing and spinners, and a sculpted replica of a F-8 Crusader jet plane.
Little Hollywood Park Improvement Project
The scope of work for the renovation of the upper section of the park included two accessible parking spaces, a new accessible pathway, accessible picnic tables, a new bench and trash receptacles.
Mansell Corridor Improvement Project
Completed February 2017. The Mansell Streetscape converted two lanes of vehicle traffic into permanent pedestrian and bicycle only pathways.
Margaret S. Hayward Playground Improvement Project
Completed November 2020. The project included replacement of children’s play area, clubhouse, playfields, sports courts, and related amenities.
Marina Bay Trail Improvement Project Assessment
Completed 2014. Bay Trail connector project has been incorporated into San Francisco Marina Improvement and Remediation project.
McCoppin Square
In 2008, the community voiced their care and concern for McCoppin Square in a vote to commit over $5 million of the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond to the park’s renovation.
McLaren Park - Completed Park Improvements
Completed projects in McLaren Park, including the Bike Park, Playground & Group Picnic Area, and Jerry Garcia Amphitheater.
Merced Heights Playground
Completed October 2020. The renovation of Merced Heights Playground was part of Let’sPlaySF!, a partnership between the Recreation and Park Department and the San Francisco Parks Alliance.
Merced Heights Playground Lower Lawn Terrace Renovation
Completed May 2023. New plaza, pathways, seating, lawn and turf, exercise equipment, as well as upgraded and accessible entrances.
Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center Fields
The proposed renovations will more than double the amount of play on the field.
Mission Dolores Park
Completed January 2016. Improvements focused on facilities, sports areas, and the general infrastructure.
Mission Dolores - Helen Diller Playground
In November 2008, Mission Dolores Park was identified as a priority site for funding under the 2008 Clean and Safety Neighborhood Park Bond.
Mission Playground
The newly renovated Mission Playground now provides the full amenities this colorful neighborhood needs.
Moscone Recreation Center - East Playground
Completed March 2018. The project included improvements to the eastern children’s play area, accessibility, and related park amenities.
Mount Davidson Trails Improvement Project
This project realigned segments of trails that were steep and narrow to improve safety and reduce erosion. Trail signs were installed at trail heads and junctions.
Mountain Lake Park Playground Improvement Project
Completed June 2017. This project included removal of deteriorated play equipment and installation of new equipment, reconfiguration of paths and stairs to increase accessibility, and associated site work.
Noe Courts Restroom Renovation
Completed May 2017. This project included court renovation, as well as upgrades to accessibility, grading and irrigation system, grading.
Noe Valley Town Square
Completed October 2016. The project added amenities to the square to establish it as a central gathering space for Noe Valley.
Noe Valley Town Square Restroom Project
Completed April 2024. The project added a restroom to the existing park.
Palega Recreation Center
This project renovated the recreation center, children’s play area, and athletic courts; restored roads and pathways; and made improvements to irrigation, lighting, and park accessibility.
Panhandle Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project
Completed August 2017. This project repaved the pedestrian path, installed clear signage, re-striped paint on pathways, repaired and replaced lighting with brighter, more energy efficient bulbs.
Panhandle Playground Project
Completed November 2019. The renovation of the Panhandle Playground was part of Let’sPlaySF! Initiative.
Portsmouth Square Restroom Renovation
Renovation of the free-standing restrooms, and the re-positioning of the building for easier access and increased Plaza space.
Potrero Hill Recreation Center Improvement Project
Completed August 2019. Approximately 455,000 square feet park includes playfields, tennis courts, dog play areas, playground, and a recreation center.
Ralph D. House Renovation Project
Completed May 2019. Improvements to the Ralph D House Community Park may include: completing the hardscape improvements, engineering assessment, grading, irrigation upgrades, and sidewalks.
Randall Museum Renovation Project
Completed February 2018. The renovation project consists of new geology and zoology exhibits, a new science lab, a new elevator, as well as the renovation of the live animal exhibit, classroom, restrooms, first floor lobby, and concession area.
Raymond Kimbell Playground
Completed June 2015. This project features an upgraded play area, improved landscape, and safer infrastructure.
Richmond Playground
Completed August 2024. Renovation of the children’s play area.
Rossi Playground Restroom Renovation
Completed May 2014. This project included the construction of a new accessible free standing restroom at Rossi Playground.
Rossi Pool Renovation Project
Completed January 2022. This project renovated the pool building at Angelo J. Rossi Playground.
Sgt. John Macaulay Park
Completed October 2020. This park features new play structure, green play surface, and silver metal picnic tables.
Sharp Park Habitat Improvements
This project consisted of pump house structure improvements to enhance maintenance access and safety, habitat restoration, and removal of impediments to water flow.
Shoreview Park Renovation Project
Completed June 2021. The project included path improvements for accessibility, renovation of the picnic areas and children’s play area, lighting and irrigation system upgrades, and landscaping work.
Silver Terrace Synthetic Turf Replacement Project
Completed November 2020. This project replaced turf, turf infill, and turf underlayment pads; made improvements and repairs to the existing perimeter fence and gate systems; and replaced select site furnishings.
South Park
Completed March 2017. The project involved upgrades to drainage, furnishings, irrigation, lighting, and paths.
South Sunset Synthetic Turf Replacement Project
Completed February 2022. The project replaced the turf, repaired perimeter fence and gates, and replaced site furnishings.
Stern Grove Emergency Repairs
Completed December 2023. Repairing damage done due to a broken valve on a nearby water transmission pipeline in August 2021.
Sue Bierman Playground Vandalism Repairs
Completed April 2023. This project fixed damage to the play structure caused by a fire in October 2021.
Sunset Playground
This project renovated the recreation center and children’s play areas, as well as made improvements to landscaping, roads and pathways, irrigation, lighting, and overall accessibility.
Tank Hill Trail Improvements
Completed September 2016. The purpose of the project was to replace a deteriorated log stair trail from Belgrave Avenue to the top of Tank Hill.
Telegraph Hill Safety Improvement Project
This project consisted of the stabilization of rock slopes located southeast and northwest of the centerline of Lombard Street.
Turk-Hyde Mini Park Improvement Project
Completed March 2020. The project included the renovations of the children’s play area, landscaping, site accessibility, and related amenities.
Twin Peaks Figure 8 Redesign Project
Completed July 2018. Planning effort to evaluate design options for the portion of the Twin Peaks roadway around the Christmas Tree point parking entrance and the two peaks.
Victoria Manalo Draves (VMD) Project
Completed Winter 2021. The project includes the addition of sports lighting at the ballfield and basketball court and upgrades of pathway lighting, as well as minor security updates to pathways, low walls, and fencing, to create better circulation and site visibility.
Washington Square Playground
Completed January 2019. This playground renovation was part of Let’sPlaySF!
Washington Square Restroom Renovation
Completed March 2015. The project included replacement of the restroom facility.
Washington Square Water Conservation Project
Completed December 2019. The project included replacement of the park’s existing irrigation system in order to conserve 2.2 million gallons of water per year.
West Portal Playground Renovation Project
Completed October 2020. The project reimagined, redesigned, and renovated the well-used playground.
West Sunset Playground
Completed November 2017. The project included the renovation of sports courts, natural turf fields, including the bleachers, storage facility, restrooms, support space, and related park amenities.
Willie Woo Woo Wong Playground Improvement Project
Completed February 2021. The project consisted of the renovation and/or reconfiguration of park features including courts, children’s play areas, alleys, and associated amenities, and improved park access to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act and California Building Code standards.
Youngblood Coleman Playground
Completed September 2017. This project improved existing benches in Children’s Play Area, replaced grills, improved picnic tables, installed activity boards, bollards, and a new drinking fountain.
Youngblood Coleman Synthetic Turf Replacement
Completed January 2021. The project replaced synthetic turf.
