Scope of Work

Visitacion Avenue Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Improvements Map 20260217_1

The project will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists on the segment of Visitación Avenue within McLaren Park between Mansell Street and Hahn Street.

Planned improvements along this half mile stretch of roadway include new bikeways, sidewalks, lighting, and signage.

This work will help better connect nearby destinations such as Coffman Pool, Hertz Rec Center, Herz Playground, Leland Ave Raingarden, McLaren Community Gardens, and Visitación Valley Middle School (SFUSD)..

Background

Visitación Avenue serves the Visitación Valley and Sunnydale neighborhoods in southeastern San Francisco.

Project planning efforts were funded by a Priority Conservation Area (PCA) grant received in partnership with SFMTA to evaluate connections between McLaren Park and the Visitación  Avenue and Sunnydale neighborhoods.

The project was awarded a second Priority Conservation Area (PCA) grant to fund capital improvements to improve bicycle and pedestrian access.

Additionally, the project was awarded two grants from the Affordable Housing Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grant program in coordination with Sunnydale HOPE SF to support pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure improvements, enhancing access to new public housing developments..

Funding

The project combines funding from Federal, State, Local, and City Funds:

  • 2020 Health and Safety Bond
  • The Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) grant
  • Pacific Gas & Electric (PG & E)
