McLaren Park - Louis Sutter Playground ADA

Louis Sutter ADA Improvements project - before construction path near lake

Scope of Work

This project will help ensure that the park is accessible to people with disabilities and complies with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by creating clear access points, upgrading pathways, correcting slopes, and providing clear paths of travel from a new accessible parking area to park attractions. These improvements will benefit all users of the park by offering better comfort, accessibility, and perception of safety.

In accordance with a Green Infrastructure Grant provided by SFPUC, the project will also install bioswales and infiltration basins adjacent to new pathway improvements to capture and reduce stormwater before it hits the combined sewer system.

The project’s objectives are the following:

  • Provide accessible parking in the South Parking lot.
  • Provide an accessible pathway from the south parking lot to the clubhouse, upper playground, and other park features.
  • New green infrastructure to capture stormwater in project area.
  • Minor improvements to existing planting areas.

Funding

Funding for this project comes from the General Fund from a program dedicated to improving compliance with ADA, from the 2020 Health & Recovery Bond, and from a green infrastructure grant (GIG) provided by SFPUC.
