Kimbell Athletic Field Renovation

Completed and Opened to the Public on August 6, 2025!

Scope of Work

This project replaced the field turf with new material that utilizes natural infill. All of the old turf was removed and recycled.

Additional improvements included replacing the chain link fence fabric, minor ADA improvements around the site, and new site furniture such as bleachers, benches, signs, and trash receptacle.

This project is part of the Park Playfield Repairs and Reconstruction Program .

Background

Rec and Park, in partnership with the City Fields Foundation, renovated this athletic fields in 2010 by installing new field drainage, synthetic turf fencing and sports field lighting. By 2025, the synthetic turf on these fields was over 14 years old, at the end of its useful life, and due for replacement.

Funding

Recreation and Parks Department General Fund and the City Fields Foundation Grant.
