Jefferson Square ADA Path Improvements
Scope of Work
This project will perform maintenance along the southern and western side park edges. The project’s focus is to improve accessibility, infrastructure, and overall user experience in and around the park. Guided by the City’s ADA Transition Plan for Curb Ramps and Sidewalks, this project is all about ensuring that all visitors feel welcomed.
The southern perimeter asphalt pathway is getting a full refresh. Our team will be repaving the surface and correcting slopes to meet ADA accessibility guidelines, which includes ensuring the running slope stays under 5% wherever possible. The project will focus on the Gough and Turk entrance, we’re exploring a stair-and-ramp combo to maintain accessibility while addressing the site’s natural grade challenges. At the Turk and Laguna entrance, the pathway will be regraded to meet ADA slope requirements. Both improvements aim to create smoother, safer transitions into the space.
As part of our commitment to inclusive design, we’ll be implementing several ADA-related upgrades. These include repainting the existing blue zone accessible parking area, coordinating with City agencies to replace aging curb ramps, and adding high-contrast striping to stair treads for improved visibility. Additionally, we’ll be relocating stair handrails from the center of staircases to the sides to better support ADA navigation standards.
We’re proud to move this work forward and will continue to share updates as construction progresses.
Funding
This project will cost $1.1 million. Funding for this project comes from the General Fund from a dedicated program for ADA compliance.
