Kaligiran
Ang Proyekto sa Pagsasaayos ng Palaruan at Grupong Piknik ng McLaren Park ay pinondohan ng 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond. Ang proyektong ito ay bahagi ng pangkalahatang Proseso ng Pagpaplano ng McLaren Park. Bukod pa rito, ang pagsasaayos ng palaruan ng mga bata ay bahagi ng Let’sPlaySF! Initiative , na naglalayong magbigay-inspirasyon sa pagkamalikhain at paglalaro sa buong Lungsod. Sa mga darating na taon, 13 palaruan na inuuna para sa pagpapabuti ng isang citizen task force ang muling isasabuhay at muling idisenyo para sa henerasyong ito at sa mga susunod pang henerasyon ng mga bata sa San Francisco.
Ang Group Picnic Area ay matatagpuan malapit sa John F. Shelley Drive sa loob ng John McLaren Park. Ang pinakamalapit na kalye ay ang Cambridge Street. Nagtatampok ang lugar ng dalawang reservable picnic area na may mga mesa, counter, at mga BBQ s. Saklaw ng Proyekto
Kasama sa proyekto ang pagpapanumbalik ng palaruan ng mga bata sa lugar ng Group Picnic at pag-aalis ng mga lumang lugar na buhanginan. Ang bagong palaruan ay matatagpuan sa pagitan ng dalawang lugar ng piknik upang samantalahin ang maburol na topograpiya ng parke. Isang slide ang bumababa mula sa tuktok ng palaruan patungo sa gitnang damuhan. Isinama ang mga natural na elemento tulad ng mga malalaking bato, troso, at mga katutubong halaman. Isang malaking istruktura ng lambat ang umaakyat sa palaruan at nagbibigay sa mga bata ng mga nakamamanghang tanawin ng Lungsod. May mga karagdagang pagpapabuti sa pangkalahatang lugar kabilang ang pagpapahusay ng mga lugar ng piknik, mga daanan, at damuhan pati na rin ang pagdaragdag ng isang loading zone, pati na rin ang isang bagong permanenteng banyo.

Ang proyektong Pagsasaayos ng Palaruan at Picnic Area ay pinondohan ng mga pribadong donasyon at mga pampublikong mapagkukunan kabilang ang 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond at may kabuuang badyet na $3.6 Milyon. Ang proyekto ng banyo (PDF) ay pinondohan din ng 2012 Parks Bond at may kabuuang badyet na $1.7 milyon.
