About this Facility
Celebrating over 75 years, the Harvey Milk Photo Center is the oldest and largest community wet darkroom in the United States. The Harvey Milk Photo Center operates one of the largest public black-and-white photo darkrooms in the country, with 35 enlarging stations in a 1,700-square-foot room. We also offer a full digital lab for members, providing film scanning and digital printing services.
Beyond providing access to our community darkroom and digital lab, we offer a diverse range of classes, workshops, membership options, a photo library, lectures, book signings, and photography exhibits and events. The Harvey Milk Photo Center serves as a vibrant hub where the community comes together to create, learn, share, and find inspiration.
The facility’s library and photo processing lab are named in honor of renowned local photographer David Johnson, whose work documented the daily lives of African Americans in San Francisco’s Fillmore District—from the neighborhood’s heyday in the 1940s and 1950s through the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
Visit the Harvey Milk Photo Center website for more information.
