Fulton Street Playground (Blue Playground)

Centrally located with easy access to the California Academy of Sciences and the de Young Museum, this playground is a favorite for families to let kids burn off energy. Locally known as the “Blue Playground,” it is a perfect mid-park stop during a day of museum hopping.

Koret Children’s Quarter and Carousel

Established in 1888 as the nation’s first public playground, this historic site features a 1914 Herschell-Spillman Carousel and the famous concrete slides. Renovated in 2007 with support from the Koret Foundation, it remains a star attraction for generations of San Franciscans. More info .

Mother’s Meadow Playground

Originally a 19th-century “safe haven” from horse racing in the park, Mother’s Meadow is now one of the city’s most beloved spaces. The large grassy expanse and adjacent playground are ideal for large family picnics and play dates.

Renovated through the Let’sPlaySF! campaign , this playground uses natural materials like boulders and wood to blend into the park’s lush environment. It features a sandbox with built-in treasures, multiple climbing surfaces, and reservable picnic tables .
