🏹 Discover the Hidden Archery Frontier of Golden Gate Park!

Step into a world where history, wilderness, and adrenaline collide.

Tucked deep into the far-west end of Golden Gate Park lies America’s oldest public archery range —a 100+ year–old landmark where legends trained, memories were made, and archers still chase the perfect shot.

If you’ve never stumbled upon this place, you’re not alone. Most people wander the park for years before discovering this secret sanctuary of arrows and adventure.

🎯 A Range Built for Every Archer

Whether you’re stringing a bow for the very first time or fine-tuning your Olympic form, this range is FREE and open to all skill levels.

What you’ll find here:

  • 10 marked shooting lanes
  • ADA-accessible lanes: #7 & #8
  • A hillside challenge: Lane #10
  • Target styles: classic hay bales for recurve archers + synthetic targets for compound bows
  • Distances: 18m, 30m, 50m, 70m & a monumental 90m

Bring your own gear and target faces—or grab rentals from the nearby archery shop .

The range operates on a first-come, first-served adventure policy .

📜 RANGE RULES (THE CODE OF THE RANGE)

To keep the adventure safe for everyone:

  1. Archery only—no exceptions.

  2. Stay within white-marked shooting lanes.

  3. No shooting at animals. Ever.

  4. No alcohol or drug use.

  5. Children must be supervised by an adult.

  6. No dogs are allowed on the range.

  7. No crossbows or broadheads.

  8. Choose a target suited to your distance.

  9. Pack out all trash—leave the range wild and beautiful.

See something damaged or out of place? Report maintenance or vandalism issues by calling or reporting to 311 .

⛔ Monthly Closure

The Archery Range is closed every 1st Saturday of the month from 12:00 PM–2:30 PM for maintenance by SF Rec & Park and the Friends of the Golden Gate Park Archery Range.
