Dog Play Areas

There are four dog play areas in Golden Gate Park, including the northeast corner off Stanyan Street, the southeast corner near Kezar Stadium, and the southwest quadrant . The northwest training area is currently being renovated . Dogs must remain on-leash until inside the designated off-leash areas.

Biking

Locations Vary | Bike Rentals

Discover our 1,017 acres on two wheels! The park features miles of roads with dedicated bike lanes and a cycle track at the Polo Field for all skill levels. Parkwide Bike Rentals offers guided tours and a fleet of bikes and surreys at the Stanyan Street entrance and the Music Concourse.

Boat Rentals at Blue Heron Lake

Explore Blue Heron Lake (formerly Stow Lake) in a rowboat or pedal boat. The Blue Heron Boathouse also offers electric pedal boats to help you enjoy the sights and sounds of nature with ease. After your ride, the boathouse cafe offers healthy snacks and refreshments.

Fly Fishing at Anglers Lodge

Tucked away in the park’s western end are three serene pools and a rustic lodge, home to the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club. The pools are open to the public to practice casting technique free of charge. Visit ggacc.org for more information.

Horseshoe Courts

Conservatory Drive East off of JFK Drive | Map It

This enclave in the northeast corner of the park features 16 pits for the game of horseshoes. Maintained by the San Francisco Horseshoe Pitching Club, these WPA-era constructions are free to use on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lawn Bowling

320 Bowling Green Drive | Map It

The San Francisco Lawn Bowling Club offers free lessons to anyone interested in learning the game at the greens adjacent to Robin Williams Meadow. Visit SFLBC.org or email info@sflbc.org to schedule a session with a coach.

Lindy in the Park

Conservatory Drive East off of JFK Drive | Map It

Held every Sunday (weather permitting), this is the longest-running free swing dance venue in the Bay Area. Open to all ages and levels, it is the perfect place to practice social dancing to jazz and swing music in the fresh air. Visit lindyinthepark.com for details.

Model Yacht Sailing

36th Avenue and Spreckels Lake Drive | Map It

Spreckels Lake was built in 1904 specifically for model boating. The San Francisco Model Yacht Club, established in 1898, is the oldest such organization in the U.S. and operates out of the nearby historic WPA clubhouse. Visit sfmyc.org for more information.

Petanque

Near 38th Avenue and Fulton | Map It

Petanque is a French boules sport similar to bocce, played on hard dirt or gravel. The courts in Golden Gate Park are free to use and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Players should bring their own equipment.

Golden Gate Park Senior Center

6101 Fulton Street | Map It

Dedicated to seniors age 55 and over, the center provides programs to maintain physical and social well-being. Offerings include dance, exercise, bridge, art, and language classes. Browse the current recreation activities list to join.
